Ahmet Öğüt recreated two lost works; Hosni Radwan’s painting from the Exhibition of Palestinian Art at Zachęta (Warsaw, 1980), and Janet Venn Brown’s painting from the International Art Exhibition for Palestine (Beirut, 1978), which was destroyed in the 1982 bombings of Beirut.
At Zachęta, these replicas become visible only when viewers stand directly in front of them, behind panes of magic glass. Safe Return of the Destroyed (with replica of Janet Venn Brown’s painting, 1972) and Safe Return of the Disappeared (with replica of Hosni Radwan’s In Memory of Palestine, 1980) are shown against two large murals inspired by the visual designs of the original 1978 and 1980 exhibitions.
