rainbow versus gray
2021

Interactive Installation
rainbow versus gray project is inspired by a true story from 2013 in Istanbul. A retired engineer named Hüseyin Çetinel decided to redecorate a massive staircase in Cihangir in rainbow colors. Three days later, the government painted over Çetinel’s work with a dull gray. In response, the LGBTIQA+ communities gathered at the stairs and restored the rainbow colors. Since then, the stairs have remained colorful. In 2021 I’ve created an interactive installation in Istanbul which visitors can transform the stairs from gray to the rainbow colors.
